East Kilbride Rotary Club
On the 8th September 2010 the Foundation Committee had been donated a four ball at Archerfield Links near North Berwick by Commsworld Limited and Rotarians Andrew Ferguson, George McGraw, David Brown and John McKie took to the Dirleton course. The weather was absolutely ideal for a round of golf and as you will see from the photographs the sun shone the whole day.
The teams were decided and Andrew Ferguson and George McGraw took on David Brown and John McKie with the former winning out on the day.
All in all it was a great day of fellowship, a great venue and we raised £240.00 towards The Rotary Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation appeal to End Polio Now

A big thank you to East Kilbride Rotarians for their support  given to Rotary Foundation

During this year the Foundation Committee have been quite busy and we can announce that we managed to raise slightly more than we did last year and I think in the current economic climate this is great news.

We arranged a few fund raising events which included:

A round of golf at Archerfield  The annual Doo races and my thanks go to Ian Macpherson for arranging that for us. The Rotary Christmas Cards and many thanks go to Eddie for the fabulous work he put into them.  We held a quiz night at Cooks Steakhouse, which was well attended and my thanks go to John & Janette McKie and their staff for all the work that they put into the night and including some donations from members that could not attend we raised a fabulous £410.00
(We had 6 teams take part in the quiz, which was based on 4 rounds of general knowledge and trivia questions between the courses of the meal and there were joint winners - the team from Kittoch Rotary Club and the Thursday Night Teatime Crew (made up of Barclay & Helen Wales and Andrew & Lynda Ferguson) who both received a voucher for a meal at Cooks Steakhouse, which they are all looking forward to using. We also had some donations from the annual dance and also from the public that came into the shop that we helped man in the Town Centre which came to £285.00

So the combined total for the year is £3,975.00, which at today's exchange rate equates to $6505.00

As you know, each club is being asked to raise $1,000.00 during the Rotary year, so we are more than six times what we were asked to do and it is fair to say that the committee are pleased with the work done this year and with the monies we have raised.

As a club, we are playing our part in the overall challenge and at the 26th April 2011, Rotary International reached US$168M against its US$200M target, so we are definitely heading in the right direction and with the finish line just over a year away in June 2012, there is every chance that we will meet the Bill and Melinda Gates challenge and hopefully we will be able to say that we have helped to End Polio once and for all.

A big thank-you goes to everyone that has helped and supported the Foundation committee this year and without your support we would not be able to assist the End Polio Now challenge in the way that we are.
